A Better Way To Measure Success?
This article is from one of our Partner’s Wings To Success
Mostly we think of success in terms of ourselves. What we will look like, what we will feel like, maybe even what we will smell like! What possessions we will amass, what our house and our car collection will look like….
By nature we are selfish beings.
Yet this selfishness also holds us back from being truly successful.
I think that there is a better way to measure success.
What if we set our goals and measured our progress against our goals in terms of how many otherpeople’s lives we were able to improve?
Now, not only has this transformed from a selfish perspective to a deeply unselfish one, it has also mutated into a vision that is far more likely to be achieved.
Let’s examine why.
Now you have a purpose outside of yourself, you let go of things that would otherwise hold you back. You abandon the feeling of guilt at having and pursuing your own goals. You become much more determined to resist the many forces, within and without, that conspire to keep you from achieving your goals.
But there is another, even more powerful, reason why having a purpose outside of yourself acts like a rocket booster strapped to a bicycle.
You see, there is a time when 1+1 does not equal 2. A time when the results really are more than the sum of the parts. This is not some buzzword-bingo corporate waffle. It’s hard, proven fact.
This is when you apply the principle of teamwork.
With a team, you can achieve much more than you ever could on your own, even if you had 36 hours every day! Learn how to think for others, to help others, and to ask for help yourself. You must have a team. Even if it’s only one other person, organise your team today.
Believe in others. Believe in their potential. Assemble, or reassemble, your team today. Issue a rallying call. Tell them your goal – and show them how they stand to benefit from it.
You’ll be amazed at how this will allow you to power through obstacles. With a team you can face the future with bravery and determination. With a team you can take fresh courage with each setback, and you will push yourself further each day.
